Have you run into a problem you just can't fix on your British car?

It's often hard to find mechanics for these cars some 30 to 50 or more years after they were built.  However, it turns out there are a handful of people who CAN fix them.

Here are some sources for working on your British car:

John’s British Cars - Reno, Nevada

Timely Work:  John Wassam not only knows British cars inside and out, but he's that rare repair shop owner who gets the car done when he says he will - usually the same or the next day.

Cost Effectiveness:  While repairs may be more than one wants on these old, maintenance-prone cars, his shop rate is $80/hour, about half that of a dealership.

As one member of the Reno MG - All British Car Club described him, he's like the plumber who's not the cheapest, but who doesn't charge for going around kicking on all the walls to find the bad pipe, but for knowing just which one - and where on it - to look!

Crotchety with a Cause:  He may, on your first visit, insult your car... and that can offend some.  However, he's usually insulting the previous mechanic who didn't stand up to his high standard!  He, at times, can be a bit like "Grumpy" in the movie Cinderealla - yet he has a heart of gold.

Restorations:  He also does a limited number of restorations.  Like most mechanics, he avoids them as they tend to tie up time and cash.  If you want a successful and timely restoration - with ANY shop - work on a "pay as you go" basis... with both of you defining the next deliverable, its due date, and its cost.  Use small, short-term deliverables; pay promptly when each is done... and never give an advance or pay before it's done.  Read our page on "Restoration Hints" for more information on this subject.

1000 Telegraph Street, #7, Reno, NV 89502:  South on Telegraph off Mill Street (between Rock & Terminal Way, near the northeast end of the airport) - his building is set way back from the street behind a tan brick building on the street with a tile roof; he backs onto the northwest end of the airport runway.  Phone: (775) 323-7767
